A dozen Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) staff and faculty were recognized for their long careers in federal service during the latest President's Council meeting in Herrmann Hall, July 11.
Recognized during the meeting were Laura A. Bonner (35 years), Penelope A. Jones (35 years), Lawrence J. Ziomek (35 years), Muguru S. Chandrasekhara (30 years), Francois Melese (30 years), Mikhail Tsypkin (30 years), Kathleen M. Noyes (25 years), Bruce C. Denardo (20 years), Gloria S. Edelen (20 years), Todd W. Jordon (20 years), and Jennifer L. Keefer (20 years).
“This is a great opportunity to recognize some outstanding service, for extended periods of time, here at NPS. In all, the service totals 320 years of service,” said NPS President retired Vice Adm. Ronald A. Route. “Thank you for your dedication and everything that you have done.”
The Length of Federal Service program recognizes employees of the federal government at five-year increments, starting at 10 years of service. At each increment, recipients are awarded a certificate and lapel pin in recognition of their service.
Ziomek, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, reflected on the changes he has seen in his 35 years on campus, to include new buildings, enrollment fluctuations, new courses and new faculty.
“It’s a good feeling to have a long career here at NPS,” said Ziomek. “Sometimes, I can’t believe that I have been here 35 years. There are always ups and downs in any career, but overall, being here has been a positive experience.”
