This page lists all the methods you can use to authenticate and maintain access to your NPS account.

Temporary Access Pass (TAP) for New NPS Users

A Temporary Access Pass (TAP) is a time-limited passcode that can be configured for single use. New users can Sign in with a TAP to onboard other passwordless authentication methods, such as Microsoft Authenticator Phone sign-in, and Windows Hello for Business (WHfB).

 Enroll in Passwordless Authentication

Passwordless Authentication is a secure authentication method that allows you to login to Office 365 services using the Authenticator app. Detailed instructions for setting up your account with passwordless authentication are available here.

 CAC Registration

DoD CACs may be used for logon to NPS workstations, Office 365, and many other enterprise applications. To register for CAC login, visit https://nps.edu/group/technology/nps-cac-registration.

Complete this process whenever you are issued a new CAC. You will still need to maintain a password and Microsoft MFA login as an alternative sign-in method.

Enable Windows Hello for Business

Windows Hello for Business (WHfB) is a secure authentication method that reduces an attacker's ability to complete phishing attacks and simplifies sign-ins, which enhances cybersecurity. You need an NPS ERN Windows 11 domain joined computer with an ERN account. Perfect for faculty and staff with a dedicated office computer.

 Unlock or Reset NPS Password

Change your password if your current password is expired or forgotten. The Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) enrollment must be completed first before using this option. Unlock your account if your account has been locked out and you remember your password. Follow the instructions and select the option "I know my password, but still can't sign in." The Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) enrollment must be completed first before using this option.

 Change Password

If you know your current password, you can update it by visiting Microsoft's Sign-In page, by navigating to this link and following the instructions to set a new password. This process helps keep your account secure with an updated and unique password.
