NSA Monterey Child Development Center
is proudly accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and certified by the Department of Defense Programs. We utilize the "Creative Curriculum" which sets children up for a positive lifetime of learning.

Registration for full day or part day care is available on line at www.navymwr.org. Look for the "Child and Youth Programs button and select "I need care". Using the drop down menu, fill in the pertinent information. You will be contacted by a Child and Youth Programs representative to confirm receipt and to offer space when it is available.

Hourly Care can be reserved in a space available basis thirty days in advance. For registration appointments, call 831-656-7407. 

Fees are based on the total family income. For full day programs payments are due on the first and fifteenth day of the month. Part day preschool fees are paid on the first business day of the month. Hourly care is paid the time services are provided.

Navy CYP Philosophy is to provide high quality educational and recreational programs for children and youth. Teams of caring, knowledgeable professionals plan developmentally appropriate programs that are responsive to the unique needs, abilities and interests of children. Our staff fosters a sense of independence, trust and responsibility within each child through understanding and respectful interactions. Likewise, through positive relationships, our programs respect and support the ideals, cultures and values of families in their task or nurturing children and youth. We are advocates for children, families and the child and youth professionals within our programs and surrounding communities.

As an accredited center, we also offer an outstanding early childhood program encompassing a safe environment while promoting the physical social, emotional and intellectual development of young children to include:

  • Positive, frequent and warm interactions between staff and children
  • Planned learning activities appropriate to the child's age and development.
  • Specially trained teachers, administrators and support staff.
  • Enough adults to respond to individual children.
  • Respect for cultural diversity.
  • Inclusive environments.
  • Nutritious meals and snacks served in a family style setting.
  • Regular, two-way communication with families who are welcome at all times.

Our Teachers:

  • Set up environments that fully engage children to explore.
  • Uses "teachable moment" opportunities to teach your child when she/he is most interested, ready and eager to learn.
  • Lead your child from where he/she is to next steps in the learning process by individualizing the curriculum.
  • Interact with your child throughout the day to check on and document learning progress.

Teachers also maintain a chart to measure your child's next step progress by:

  • Observing children several times a week and document the observations in the CreativeCurriculum.net program.
  • Interpret observations and apply to progress chart.
  • Use the observations as the basis for individual and group planning.
  • Plan together with parents at least three times per year during conference opportunities, sharing information and setting goals together.

Parents' Night Out is provided every first Friday of the month free of charge, however registration is required. Special events can also be provided based upon request for an additional fee.

Parent Involvement Board meets on the second Friday every other month beginning October of each year. The meeting is held at the Tech Connection from 12:00-1:00 pm. Child Care is available upon request.

Infant-Child CPR Class Saturday, July 23 *10:00 am-2:00 pm. This American Red Cross certified course is free of charge and will be offered at the Child Development Center; Bldg 439 in La Mesa Village, in Room 40. Call Michele Johnson at 831-656-2734 for more details. Limited free childcare is available. Reservations must be made no later than Friday, July 15.

Missoula Children's Theater Child and Youth Programs is proud to announce the arrival of Missoula Children's Theater. If your child has evver had an interest in being an actor or experiencing how a production is put together, don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to be part of the cast of "The Princess and the pea". Auditions will be held August 1-5 with rehearsals scheduled daily for the remainder of the week. There will be lots of roles and jobs for children and youth grades 1-12. Audition and rehearsal sites are to be determined. The actual production will be on Saturday, August 6. Participation is free!

Staff and Parent Training Opportunity Tuesday, August 9 *6:00-8:00 pm at the Tech Connection/Teen & Youth Center. Our monthly staff training is being extended to our parents as we explore developmentally-appropriate ways to celebrate holidays in military child and youth settings. The Training includes how to celebrate holidays and how to decide which holidays to celebrate based upon our families, ages of children and scope of the programs. The training also includes a survey on holidays and small group round-table discussions to share ideas. No reservations are needed. Just come participate!
