Welcome to the Mechanical and Astronautical Engineering (MAE) Department. I invite you to browse our web site and learn more about the exciting Masters and Doctoral degree programs we offer along with a broad range of research programs, and consulting that support National Security. The Department started as the founding department of the postgraduate division at the Naval Academy in 1909 and moved to Monterey in 1952. In the past 100 years many technologies have changed, but the Navy's need for technical excellence in the officer corps has remained constant. Our mission is to provide our graduates with a solid foundation in the engineering fundamentals, and to give them the ability to think creatively and be leaders.  Distinguished Professor Brij Agrawal Wins 2006 Hamming Award. Professor Brij Agrawal won the prestigious Naval Postgraduate School Richard W. Hamming Faculty Award for Achievement in Interdisciplinary Activities for 2006.The founder and director of the world class NPS Spacecraft Research and Design Center received the honor at the NPS Quarterly Awards Ceremony March 13.
