Back On-Orbit System Identification and Slew Maneuver for Flexible Spacecraft

Summary The objective of this research program is to develop and evaluate techniques for adaptive slew maneuver control of flexible spacecraft. The research emphasis is to minimize residual vibrations and slew maneuver time for enhanced acquisition and pointing performance. During FY2009, adaptive slew maneuver methods using adaptive input shaping techniques were developed. One method is to adapt the input shaping parameter by using the rate of change of the reference slew trajectories. The other method is to adapt the system parameters used in the input shaping design from system identification. The star tracker sensor was also integrated on the Bifocal Relay Mirror Spacecraft simulator for accurate determination of the spacecraft attitude for large angle slew maneuvers. In FY2010, The adaptive slew maneuver control method will be further developed to include different adaptive schemes. The adaptive slew maneuver control method will be combined with the optimal slew trajectories for flexible spacecraft. The proposed work will be implemented on the experimental testbed.
