Summary | This effort investigates novel utilization of three in-orbit GOES meteorological satellites (GOES 14, 15, 17) including repurpose to the Western Pacific. Current capabilities of each available spacecraft are investigated from a scientific point of view towards application to warfighting, and recommendations are made about the mission employment of each system. Mission applications are hypothesized to include METOC and C5ISRT, but additional consideration is given to major objectives of discovering novel applications, e.g. combat search and rescue and disaster recovery in austere environments. Standard research methods utilized include literature review, technical system evaluation against combat mission needs, and contemplative fathoming of innovative new potential missions bestowing unexpected utilities. Instrument frequencies are matched against operational mission applications producing recommendations for each instrument. Satellite repositioning capacities are investigated with regards to current fuel on board, but recommendations are also be made regarding zero-propellant repositioning of any of the satellites studied. |
