Back Failure Recovery of Control Moment Gyros-Driven Spacecraft

Summary The objectives of this proposal are to advance failure-recovery of spacecraft driven by control moment gyros (CMGs) by way of students' thesis research. More specifically, the Control and Optimization Group at NPS has developed new ideas on failure recovery (US Patents (pending) 61/652,774 and 61/691,896) and this proposal is aimed at: (i) advancing the failure-recovery concept, (ii) completing the design and analysis of a smart CMG designed by LT Ackman, and (iii) modifying NPS' Reconfigurable Satellite (R-SAT) Laboratory in support of incoming students' thesis research.
