Back Socio-Technical Information Operations: Development of Cyberdefense Research Capability for Crisis and Disaster

Complex humanitarian operations and civil conflicts (such as Syria and the current Ukraine crisis) increasingly have a cyber-attack edge. Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks are now a common feature of conflicts.
The aim of this effort is to promote responsible research on generating socio-technical information flows for the purpose of developing appropriate methods for monitoring novel information feeds for information to support human security and human security missions, as well as to support port and harbor security, platform security, and to promote the security of U.S. personnel and citizens abroad. Designing, testing, and evaluating social media application work-flows requires unique assessment capabilities.
This effort is to develop integrated efforts of research to fast-track, test and evaluate new capabilities and concepts of operation to support first responders, disaster operations and crises operations; and to develop and support technical demonstrations of the initial test bed developments, including scenario development.
