Summary Two major SEA studies are planned for FY13. The first, UUV Integration into the Future U.S. Submarine Force, will design a system of unmanned undersea vehicles that will provide an operational undersea force available for tasking over a range of missions by 2024. The system may be a totally unmanned force or a combination force of manned platforms and unmanned undersea vehicles that can execute missions in an integrated fashion. The second proposed study, Projected Use of Directed Energy Weapons by U.S. Naval Forces, will design a family of Systems of directed energy weapons which can be integrated with manned and unmanned forces to address a broad spectrum of missions commensurate with the needs of the U.S. Navy. The study will consider the current fleet structure and funded programs as the baseline family of systems to conduct current missions. Particular attention will be paid to the possible logistics benefits of replacing kinetic kill rounds with DEW.
