Summary The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has been funded for FY13-FY17 through the Operational Energy Capabilities Improvement Fund (OECIF) from the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Operational Energy) for a project entitled “Energy Efficient Outpost Modeling Consortium” (EEOMC). The purpose of EEOMC is to develop system-level energy modeling tools to determine the proper balance of energy resources and optimize their integration into a tactical microgrid. EEOMC consists of three pillars:
1. Energy Resource Planning Tool - This is a modeling tool used to determine the optimal mix of power sources for military contingency outposts. This tool will simplify complex choices and provide recommendations for energy planners.
2. Energy Resource Dashboard - This application will provide outpost commanders and energy managers with a real-time picture of energy resources and energy consumption.
3. Energy Efficient Education - This pillar will develop and deliver coursework, planning resources, and energy education and develop methods to promote energy awareness and energy behavior change in support of pillars 1 and 2.
The Energy Academic Group at the Naval Postgraduate School is the lead for Pillar 3.
