Summary The objective of this project is to enhance and bridge capability gaps in the Joint IED Defeat Organization's (JIEDDO) research and development efforts. The NPS Principal Investigators (PIs) will coordinate directly with the JIEDDO Technical Gaming Team (TGT) branch chief (or designated representatives) to ensure that research activities and analyses are appropriate, relevant, and timely. In addition, the NPS PIs will designate a study lead for each internal study related to the execution of these tasks and supporting research. The result will be a set of recommendations for investment, fielding, and application of future systems and procedures closely aligned to JIEDDO's present and future strategic objectives. The primary emphasis will be on analyzing route clearance scenarios; IED systems modeling and analysis; and, experimentation and testing (live, virtual, and constructive environments). A secondary emphasis will be on IED networks and applying a cross-disciplinary approach to determine key nodes and arcs of the network that may be influenced. This research includes, but is not limited to, modeling and simulation, operations research, systems engineering, and other analyses, which become deliverables to JIEDDO. NPS will use JIEDDO-approved operational scenarios, as well as data and intelligence al incidents to perform these studies. NPS will use qualitative and quantitative methodologies that are transferable to JIEDDO.
