Summary The overall objective of the proposed effort is to develop and demonstrate technologies required for long dwell imagery while reducing the risk and cost of future imaging satellite programs. High-resolution persistent imagery collection requires large aperture primary mirrors. The primary mirror surface figure specification needs to be within a fraction of a wavelength for a telescope to function near the diffraction limit. The proposed work will investigate and evaluate surface error correction techniques of replicated CFRP primary mirrors by using a deformable mirror technology in the optical path, hyperspectral telescope design study using deformable mirror, vibration reduction using tuned mass dampers, and consulting work on third part analysis, development, and test validation work. The proposed program of research will also provide opportunities to educate future DoD-SP military and the civilian workforce gaining a multidisciplinary background with hands on experience in optics, structures, and controls.
