Summary The primary objective of my research is to integrate a commercially procured tablet with existing Department of Defense (DOD) networks and/or tactical datalinks. The tablet's portability and multi-purpose functionality are extremely advantageous to tradition computer hardware infrastructures. To maximize the tablet's capabilities to the operator and DOD, it must have access to data readily available on current DOD networks. My research will try to establish this connection.
With access to data on DOD networks, a tablet's usefulness would be limitless. Smaller more flexible mission specific applications (apps) could be developed and tailored for the warfighter instead of traditional DOD software development. Furthermore, the tablet's portability will allow users to transport their mission software to any military platform or environment desired. Successful research could potentially change computer software and hardware acquisition for the entire DOD.
