Summary Measurement and test techniques, that have been developed, during steam ingestion tests on a transonic fan stage will be used to determine the effect of inlet distortion on a scaled version of the F136 first stage fan. The effect of steam ingestion has not been quantified on either of the JSF engines, nor has the first stage fan of the F136 engine been individually rig tested. The collaboration with General Electric and Rolls Royce on this project will address both these issues. The added complexity of measurement within a fan stage that includes an inlet guide vane will be addressed during this study. The benchmark data will be used to guide the validation of codes and the establishment of best practices that ensure the accurate prediction of inlet distortion due to steam ingestion.
