Summary The LCS platform was designed with smart ship systems, improved technology, and an innovative look at workload distribution across the Naval workforce. The ship design applied reduced manning models, relying heavily on contracted and shipyard labor for both extensive planned and corrective maintenance. Unfortunately, inadequacies in the manning models may compromise the operational envelope of ship systems, exacerbating existing operational problems and degrading the ability to react to unexpected events. This may result in reduced mission capability and degraded combat effectiveness.
