Sponsor Air Force Research Laboratory (Air Force)
Summary The SECDEFs Assessment of the Manufacturing Capacity, Defense Industrial Base, and Supply Chain Resiliency of the United States describes environmental dynamics from the perspective of an ecosystem that touches not only on manufacturing, supply chain resilience, and national security but on US prosperity and trade policy, great power competition, the Defense Industrial Base, and an education system in the US capable of supporting a sustainable, technologically competitive workforce.
This project seeks to use system dynamics modeling to better understand and address the underlying technical and industrial challenges, non-linear relationships, feedback mechanisms, delays, policies, and system structures in which the Trusted and Assured Microelectronics Program and Trusted and Assured Manufacturing program (T&AM) must be implemented. Further, it will provide core system dynamics and system sciences courses for inclusion in a cooperative Systems Engineering PhD program at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) focused on system dynamics modeling for T&AM.
