Summary The overarching goal of this study is to identify issues that are likely to arise in training and placement of women in combat roles, and to explore options for addressing those issues. The secondary goal is to identify strengths that women bring to combat roles, and to seek
ways to leverage those strengths through training and role development.
The following options will be assessed for feasibility and likelihood of success, based on literature review, analysis of existing data, and foreign military practices and outcomes. These possible courses of action will be adjusted and refined as we move forward with the study.
COA 1) Integrate women directly into SEAL and SWCC training with no changes to test standards or requirements
- How could mentoring influence women's recruitment and training success?
- What other adjustments might facilitate selection and training of successful female candidates?
COA 2) Create a separate rating for new NSW combat roles with separate training for this rating, then integrate the women into NSW force packages.
- Can we integrate women successfully into new combat roles in NSW?
- What unique skills and abilities might these roles require?
- Could SWCC training requirements be reassessed, potentially allowing excellence in non-physical areas to counterbalance lower physicality scores?
