Summary The objective of this effort is to improve the accuracy of electromagnetic (EM) system performance assessments produced by the Advanced Refractive Effects Prediction System (AREPS) through improved characterization of the atmospheric refractivity environment. The key elements of this effort include: a) finalizing the development of a refractivity profile blending algorithm that smoothly blends a surface layer model refractivity profile onto the bottom of a numerical weather prediction (NWP) model refractivity profile and performing validation on this algorithm, and b) developing a new Refractivity Structure Matching Algorithm (RSMA) that realistically interpolates refractivity features at regular intervals along a propagation path from gridded refractivity profiles produced by NWP models.
