Summary | This annual proposal for continued support of our research in large-scale optimization includes finding ways to produce optimal or near-optimal nested, prioritized solutions to families of optimization problems dependent on monotonically varying resource availability, such as US defense investments dependent on funds made available, and assessing the degradation such nesting restriction inflicts on optimality. We also propose to formally bound the quality of solutions to integer linear programs using solution cascading, an optimization-based heuristic used frequently within the Department of Defense. We will also investigate ways to mitigate the end effects of truncated planning horizons on long-term and infinite-horizon models. |
