Summary | The Navy's 30-year shipbuilding plan includes a significant increase in future surface VLS capacity. This increase will present challenges in acquiring the necessary inventory of tactically relevant missiles. This study will evaluate the Navy's 30-year shipbuilding plan and the associated increase in VLS capacity including the addition of Large Unmanned Surface Vessel (LUSV), DDG(X) with Destroyer Payload Module (DPM), and potential Arsenal ships to determine the cost, production rates, and industrial base capacity required to fill the increased number of VLS cells with relevant ordnance. The results of this study will inform investment decisions in the industrial base and sustainment pipelines for current and future surface launched missiles, helping to not only ensure that sufficient missile production capacity is available, but also that adequate funds are programmed to sustain the missiles throughout their lifecycle. |
