Summary This work will investigate the application of big-data methods to combat ID, especially the classification of targets. Automated methods are speeding identification but there are obstacles to sharing information with other knowledge sources and platforms, and sharing can be important in increasing the confidence of an identification. Current "big-data" ideas like distributed processing and cloud services could help address this problem, but their use needs to be planned carefully to avoid creating bottlenecks and vulnerabilities, though the increasing size of hardware capacities may help some of the bottlenecks. We will investigate the issues and make recommendations for the Navy in a report. These recommendations will take into account such factors as desired data processing rates, acceptable latencies, error rates in the data, security considerations, and availability of methods for resolving data conflicts.
