Summary MDA is a core Navy function. The sensor sources that support MDA vary considerably by Fleet and focus. In many cases it would be tactically advantageous to derive MDA data via unclassified sources to ease tactical information sharing. Detecting, tracking, and identifying surface tracks by using commercial satellite sources is a nascent capability that shows promise. Next steps include automaton of identifying vessels of interest so as to eliminate or reduce the cumbersome manual processes. Research is still needed on how to convert computer vision (SPOTR) tracks into the appropriate format for ingest into SeaVision. Further research is needed to determine how this helps SeaVision users become more successful. Even categorizing vessels by type would be value added.
Study seeks to address:
1. How can we automate the detection, classification, and identification process using SPOTR?
2. What needs to be done to take tracks determined through the use of SPOTR to be injected into SeaVision?
3. What operational implications does driving up the number of non-cooperative vessels of internet do for SeaVision and its users?
