Summary |
This research seeks to provide a predictive tool to show ships at risk of Class A and B mishaps based on current inspections, certification, assist visits (ICAV), or other current events and incidents onboard a ship that might help identify ships at risk of future mishaps. Our goal is to provide a predictive tool to identify ships at risk based on current inspections, certification, assist visits (ICAV), or other current events and incidents onboard a ship that would help identify ships at risk of future mishaps. We would also seek to identify root cause analysis across multiple dissimilar shipboard Mishaps (class A and B) and ship classes. Additionally, by looking at data from ships that have had mishaps and by going beyond root cause of specific causal factors for that incident, we may be able to determine the relationship of numerous indicator variables that may have predicted the ship was at risk. We plan to examine the number of variables such as: CASREPS (including repair rates), timing of critical billet changes, personnel FIT/FILL, OPTEMPO, maintenance (3M) inspection results, first pass yield of ATG (Afloat Training Group) events, experience of crew, navigation "check rides," each of which may prove to contribute toward the manifestation of a mishap. We would also seek to perform this root cause analysis across multiple ship classes, with the continuing goal of developing a predictive tool for identifying ships at risk before mishaps occur and to help identify appropriate command interventions and thus improve fleet readiness. |
