Summary | The objective of this research program is to develop and evaluate techniques for a fault-tolerant spacecraft design. The research emphasis is to study control configurations for various Control Moment Gyroscope (CMG) arrays for rapid slew maneuvers and develop a fault-tolerant system and control design. Fault-tolerant system design can greatly reduce the risk of the spacecraft program and maintain the acquisition and pointing performance when there is a component failure in the system. NPS has extensive research experience in slew maneuver control design with CMGs and developed an experimental spacecraft simulator. The proposed fault-tolerant design will be implemented on the experimental testbed and slew performance will be identified. |
