Summary The Virtual Schoolhouse (VSH) is a virtual world-based capability that is used by the submarine Fleet for training tactical principles as well as command decision-making (NSTPAC). The basic concept of a VSH for distance learning is to provide remote access via avatars from network-connected home-port/workplace locations, so that students and instructors can interact with each other (voice, presence) and the training material (PPT, posters, docs, live desktops, immersive exhibits, etc.) in a virtual training campus that supports many different types of information interaction. Additionally, this project will develop a scenario-based LVC Learning Lab curriculum that includes hands on experience in the use of the LVC common tools, models, simulations, and best practices. Participants will have hands on opportunity to learn about and use tools like AMIE, NTGS, DIADS, NEWCIM, JMETC, SDREN, etc. It Will also leverage existing VSH capabilities and be hosted on DREN and/or SDREN for delivery of M&S courseware in persistent, 3D immersive, M&S Campus. Development, execution, and evaluation will be supported by a collaboration between DON M&S (development of the E&T course content and concepts of employment, especially relative to the introductions to LVC/M&S), NUWCNPT (implementation of new capabilities into VSH), and NAWCAD (provide insights into how to use such a capability within the School of M&S). The NPS MOVES Institute will provide stakeholders and support for the LVC course strategy into the Virtual Schoolhouse environment.
