Summary This project will contribute to the office of Net Assessment's research and analysis of China, by focusing and building on the work of Nathan Leites. In particular, the project aims to develop further an analysis of Chinese movies, using categories as well as analysis and unpublished material and research for Nathan Leites as well as Leites' own psycho-cultural analysis of movies. In addition, the project will research implications of this as well as Leites' other work for understanding organizational decision making and strategic issues. It will implicitly and explicitly analyze the importance of understanding psychological and cultural backgrounds for strategy; and the need to use many different disciplines to understand the empirical realities of the strategic competition. How nations behave and make decisions is influenced by their national cultures; the psychologies of their peoples; how they perceive the world - many factors that are not accounted for by most western approaches. Nathan Leites' work is a useful building block towards a more interdisciplinary understanding.
