Summary	The purpose of this research is to estimate how much first term attrition costs the Army and the Navy by examining attrition rates and replacement costs across several personnel categories and separation points. Estimation of current attrition rates and associated costs will help the Services to make a cost-effective selection of personnel: this is the primary benefit to be realized from this research.
