Back THz imaging for nondestructive evaluation of coated metallic surfaces of Naval systems
Fiscal Year | 2021 |
Division | Graduate School of Engineering & Applied Science |
Department | Physics |
Investigator(s) | Gibson, John H. |
Sponsor | Naval Information Warfare Center, Pacific (Navy) |
Summary | The objective of this research is to investigate the THz transparency properties of the coatings of submarine and ship hulls and other metallic surfaces and the detectability of abnormalities such as air/water pockets, corrosion, cracks and wrinkle without coat removal. This study will be conducted to provide requirements to optimize THz illumination sources and detectors/cameras for specific coatings and materials, to allow nondestructive evaluation. |
