Summary This proposal is funded through Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI) in accordance with the Naval Education Training Security Assistance Field Activity (NETSAFA) MASL P273013.
This event supports delivery of a CCMR Peacekeeping program Philippines Protection of Civilians (POC) Train-of-Trainers (ToT) Course to members of the Philippines Armed Forces. This course/event (MASL 273013) is regularly conducted, on an annual basis, by CCMR throughout the Asia-Pacific and Africa areas. This training was coordinated and agreed upon bilaterally by the US and Philippine governments during the Bilateral Defense Discussions.
If this course does not occur it would diminish the Philippines' capacity to train and deploy peacekeepers into the United Nations peacekeeping missions. This would negatively affect future US-Philippines peacekeeping cooperation. Philippines is currently a regular and well-recognized contributor of peacekeepers to UN Missions worldwide. There is potential that failure to support this training could adversely impact force generation for potential new UN missions or extend already deployed contingents in place due to inadequate replacements available.
The course is pre-coordinated in detail and supported by the US Embassy in Manila, Philippines and United States Pacific Command.
