Summary | This project will result in more accurate Battlespace on Demand (BonD) Tier 2 and 3 electromagnetic (EM) and electro-optical (EO) guidance products being provided to the U.S. warfighter through the development and refinement of models and algorithms that more realistically characterize the propagation environment for improved propagation modeling. These models and algorithms are stand-alone products intended for incorporation into the latest Advanced Refractive Effects Prediction System (AREPS) in the near term, and also for use in future Tactical Decision Aids (TDAs), including the Naval Integrated Tactical Environmental Subsystem, Next Generation (NITES-NEXT) and the EM Performance Surface (EMPERF) being developed at FNMOC. Improved characterization of the environment for EM/EO system performance predictions will be accomplished by: 1) Improving the accuracy of the Navy Atmospheric Vertical Surface Layer Model (NAVSLaM) in characterizing near surface refractivity and the evaporation duct by including the impact of varying sea surface salinity in determining the surface humidity; 2) Refining, testing and validating the new Refractivity Structure Matching Algorithm (RSMA) being developed in collaboration with SSC-Pac and NRL-MRY. |
