Summary In FY15 and FY16, NPS developed a hurricane decision simulator for the Marine Corps Forces Reserve (MFR) in New Orleans that allows users to step through many synthetic storms and forecasts to gain a familiarity with the evolution of Gulf hurricanes, forecast quality as a function of lead time, and the critical decision points, together with follow-on actions and decisions by other local agencies that affect the execution of hurricane preparation actions. In FY17, we propose to continue maintaining this with updates per requests from MFR in New Orleans, including adding functionality. In addition, to support the use of this tool by other MFR training centers on the US eastern seaboard, we propose to update the storm and forecast model with input from NOAA meteorology organizations, and develop a capability to use a US Atlantic or Gulf coastal location other than New Orleans as the location of interest.
