Summary | Support for three projects is requested with this proposal. All seem feasible and worthwhile. Following are statements of work and brief project description for these projects. The first involves measurements of atmospheric thermodynamics, turbulence and optical extinction in the coastal region near Pt. Mugu during Santa Ana wind outbreaks, with the purpose of determining how such events affect EM propagation in the marine boundary layer. The second involves measurements of energy exchange between sea and air near the Arctic ice edge in the Greenland Sea, with the purpose of determining the effect of total to partially covered sea surface on turbulent heat and water vapor fluxes as well as radiation fluxes in this dynamic region. The Third involves measurements of atmospheric thermodynamic structure, aerolod loading, aerosol composition, cloud droplet physical and chemical characteristics in the marine stratocumulus environment off the California coast, with the purpose of improving understanding of how these factors influence cloud and fog development and dissipation in the region. |
