Summary The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) will operate an unmanned aerial system (UAS), unmanned surface vessel (USV), and autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) in the very shallow water (VSW) mine countermeasure (MCM) experiment under the following concept of operations. 1) A ScanEagle UAS flying a miniature synthetic aperture radar (SAR) will fly over the operating area to detect mine-like objects from the air. ScanEagle will be launched and operated from shore, but will transmit in-flight video and radar imagery to high speed vessel (HSY) via a WaveRelay wireless network. 2) The HSY will launch a SeaFox USV programmed to survey probable mine locations using its ATLAS forward looking sonar. The SeaFox will conduct an autonomous survey to detect and locate underwater mine-like objects while transmitting USV video and ATLAS sonar imagery to the HSY via the WaveRelay network. 3) Safety observers on the SeaFox will launch a REMUS AUV to perform a detailed sidescan sonar survey of the seafloor. During this mission, the SeaFox will provide REMUS with target locations derived from ATLAS sonar maps via acoustic modem. 4) REMUS sidescan sonar data will be uploaded to the Mine Integrated Warfare and Environmental Decision Aids Library (MEDAL) system aboard the HSY.
