Back Evaluating Operational Effectiveness of Decision Support Tools

Fiscal Year 2019
Division Graduate School of Engineering & Applied Science
Department Meteorology
Investigator(s) Feldmeier, Joel
Sponsor Naval Research Laboratory (Navy)
Summary This project is intended to: (a) improve the understanding of how to assess the performance and operational impacts of meteorology and oceanography (METOC) support; and (b) develop recommendations for designing and implementing an assessment process that would allow Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) to better understand how its products are performing and affecting operations, and how NRL product performance and impacts could be improved. The project will have three major components: 1) review and consolidation of previous literature and work, particularly in regard to metrics research for METOC; 2) A survey of NPS faculty, staff, and students who have had significant command and or operations/planning experience (not as METOC personnel); 3) Develop a road-map for possible future work between NRL Monterey, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Analysis Center (TRAC) Monterey, and Naval Postgraduate School Meteorology Department on this important topic.
