Summary | The focus of the research program is to develop and implement a framework for a group of AUVs to collaborate in order to conduct a complete survey of a harbor. To do so requires advances in control, networking and sensory perception. Of particular emphasis is system stability - how the group can minimize position estimation errors in order to accurately survey the region and maneuver the AUVs safely in a cluttered and dynamic harbor. A key aspect is determining the ability to communicate between mobile vehicles so that the region can be partitioned in such a way as to minimize communication outages. A promising solution is the construction of an acoustic connectivity map. Once constructed it provides an assessment of the ability to successfully communicate between AUVs. The challenge is to build them as accurately and quickly as possible so as to minimally impact on the survey mission. |
