Fiscal Year 2015
Division Graduate School of Operational & Information Sciences
Department Defense Analysis
Investigator(s) Simons, Anna
Sponsor Naval Special Warfare Development Group (Navy)
Summary The research question to be addressed is: How does SOF establish a counter-radicalization lab in HOA that can be executed in concert with foreign partner nations in the region? Subsidiary questions are: what specific people (leaders, tribes) in HOA would need to support/be involved in this program in order for it to be successful? What best practices from current CVE programs can be applied?
This research will entail travel to the Command in Dam Neck, Virginia, as well as to sites of ongoing CVE programs. It will also include a trip to the region to investigate current efforts and to assess the potential for the lab and/or programs NSWDG envisions.
NPS students with prior experience in HOA will participate in this research effort through a Directed Studies course. The sponsor's aim is to also have several students work on a thesis in support of this project.
