Summary | This proposal is for funding to evaluate the relationship between the size distributions of intermetallic Al6Mn and Ai6Fe particles and cavity nucleation during elevated temperature deformation of AA5083. Materials will be deformed under both dislocation creep and grain boundary sliding conditions and the effect of deformation mechanism on cavity nucleation will be quantified. The role of grain-to-grain disorientation on cavity nucleation will also be evaluated, as well as the dependence of nucleation strain on stress state (uniaxial vs. biaxial). |
