Summary This project is a joint effort between researchers at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and San Francisco State University. The focus is on the adaptation of real-time ocean surface current and satellite-derived surface temperature observations to the task of tracking and predicting the fate of buoyant particles, including spilled oil or missing persons. Specifically, products will be developed using real time data that produce short term (24 hour) forecasts. Data required to develop and implement these products are available as part of the ongoing Coastal Ocean Currents Monitoring Program (COCMP) sponsored by the State of California. This collaborative effort will create value-added processing and delivery systems using sample data from the region around Monterey Bay.
