Back High Energy Laser Employment in Self Defense Tactics on Naval Platforms
Fiscal Year | 2014 |
Division | Research & Sponsored Programs |
Department | Naval Research Program |
Investigator(s) | Kline, Jeffery E. |
Sponsor | NPS Naval Research Program (Navy) |
Summary |
The following issues will be addressed; - With current HEL technical capabilities, what are the best target assignments for a shipboard laser weapon in a self-defense scenario against a heterogeneous attack such as lethally armed UAVs and anti-ship cruise missiles? How does this compare with the CIWS or other missile system contributions? - What technical constraints (e.g., re-fire rate, dwell time) most limit the HEL in its ability to contribute to a coordinated defense against a heterogeneous attack? - Based on technical improvements in beam control, dwell time, power, and re-fire, what are the impacts on overall contributions to ship's self-defense? |
