Back Developing SIGINT Detection for Spectrum Sharing and/or Cyber-Inspired Hybrid Radar and Communications Signals

Summary The recognition of electromagnetic (EM) spectrum being a natural resource to be efficiently utilized has recently led to more complex spectrum sharing and/or hybrid waveform schemes for various users such as radar, communications, and wireless cellular systems. Indeed, other systems embed communications signals in radar waveforms for cyber considerations. Traditionally, spectral allocation allows for separation of these systems in the frequency domain with the use of so-called spectral guard bands. SIGINT typically relies on some a priori knowledge (or collected knowledge) when detecting, classifying, and/or identifying certain signals of interest. Unfortunately, such traditional SIGINT techniques will unlikely work for very complicated spectrum-sharing or hybrid signals. In this work, we develop detection schemes for certain types of hybrid radar-communications signals.
