Summary The objective of this research program is to develop and evaluate techniques for on-orbit system identification and slew maneuver control of flexible spacecraft. The research emphasis is to minimize residual vibrations and slew maneuver time while a flexible spacecraft is undergoing large slew maneuvers. Future spacecraft missions will require robust operation against system variations and disturbances with stringent performance requirements. Therefore, on-orbit on-line system identification of spacecraft inertia and structural frequencies becomes an important part in designing slew control systems. During FY 2007, research was performed on spacecraft slew maneuvers with a control moment gyroscope array. A control method utilizing adaptive input shaping and system identification was developed. Flexible mass simulators were also installed on the existing spacecraft test-bed. During the proposed research program, experimental verification of the proposed techniques will be performed. Further studies on improving the slew maneuver performance will be also investigated. The proposed technology developments will provide agile maneuver of the spacecraft with improved acquisition and pointing capabilities.
