Back Crisis Information Technologies: Information Flows and Technologies to Support Disaster Operations

Fiscal Year 2015
Division Research & Sponsored Programs
Department Cebrowski Institute
Investigator(s) Steckler, Brian D.
Sponsor Office of Naval Research (Navy)
Summary The Office or Naval Research (ONR) social networking development activities are focusing on the following objectives:
- Formulating state-of-the-art tools and methodologies supporting the use of novel technologies and automated information flows for alerts and warnings, assisted research, and dynamic assessments of hazards, mission readiness and execution. These functions support DoD operational missions related to humanitarian assistance/disaster response (HADR) and human security (HS). This will include understanding the impacts of novel threats and attacks to HADR and related regional development initiatives (such as cyberattack, deception campaigns, and social cyberattack via smart mobbing).
- Research novel information flows and develop training concepts for operational users/analysts in the use of this relatively new hybrid of data and openly accessed tools
- Develop novel concepts of operations (CONOPS) applying these technologies and data resources using participatory design collaborations with operational users involved in HA/DR and crisis operations.
