Summary The proposed program would develop novel methods and materials to design and produce absorptive metasurfaces for Counter Directed Energy Weapon (CDEW) applications. These would be rapid, low-cost and highly scalable methods. The project would build on the recent successful fabrication, at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), rigid and flexible metasurfaces with high absorption in the microwave regime. We would also utilize and expand on finite elements models of these metamaterials both at unit cell level and macroscopic level. The project would also continue attempting to integrate sensing capabilities into metamaterials for forensic purposes. When researching novel materials, our goal will also be for them to be suitable for additive manufacturing methods so that 3D structures could eventually be built. Finally, the project would make efforts to integrate developed analytical and experimental concepts with the study of random coupling model.
