Back Enabling Collaboration and Visualization of Complex Operational Technology Computer Networks with Augmented Reality Technology

Summary Current technology used to support situational awareness for complex Naval operational technology systems does not provide a flexible, shared view that reflects both the physical and logical configuration of the networks either during normal operations or at times of crisis. To address this problem, this project will create a prototype visualization of a complex network that correctly represents the physical space the network occupies, as well as the logical system the network employs. The prototype will allow the user to see the entire network in one view, but also give the option to select portions of the large network system, zoom into specific spaces or turn layers on or off and manipulate that information, as each task requires. This research will evaluate whether visualization objectives exercised by a small group of operators who act in a shared work environment on tasks that concern network management, operations, training, and support, can be supported using commercial off the shelf, lightweight, portable AR technology
