Summary This proposal continues research in thrust areas within the Naval Postgraduate School"s (NPS) ongoing efforts and expertise in the area of waste heat recovery; capturing waste heat, primarily targeted at waste heat on board surface vessels, then using that waste heat to generate energy for other uses. Typical gas turbine engines, like those aboard many Navy surface vessels, have thermal loss of 50% to a high estimate of 65%. As we look to improve operational capability utilizing existing resources, capturing and repurposing this waste heat presents an immediately available and consistent source of newfound energy aboard our ships without requiring any additional fuel.
