Summary This project supports the ONR initiative to demonstrate energy technologies and analyze the return on investment (ROI) of such projects. We will specifically research/develop optimized concentrated photo-voltaic (CPV) solutions (Task 1) and waste heat recovery (WHR) solutions (Task 2) for USN base power plants. This is part of the overall NPS umbrella effort to provide overall management support to all the NPS projects, as well as supporting the sponsor, ONR and Dr. Stacey Curtis, with the associated industrial projects that are separately funded. In addition to the deep understanding and optimization on each of the technologies, namely CPV and WH R, the project will facilitate a "systems integration" skill development amongst the approximately six theses starts planned approximately at the same time in January 2015 to cover the two projects. Due to the final technology demonstration plan and the complexity of integration it is anticipated that the approximately six theses students, in addition to their own deep technical areas for the project, will also operate in a "system integration" environment. This overall effort of the students will be integrated and closely coordinated and facilitated by Dr. Sanjeev Sathe, PI who has more than 15 years of industrial experience in research, design, development, manufacturing and field reliability.
