Summary NPS team has broken down the study into the following tasks to address xAPI IA.
1. Setup the current xAPI environment (with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure [VDI]) in a lab and understand all possible software security holes. This will be done in a secure MIL NIPR network. The purpose is to secure the operating systems on the server and client.
2. Identify eLearning features used by the SaiIors and Marines (community) and if they contribute to potential security issues.
3. Access xAPI server from a non-MIL wired network. This will be done to study possible security lapses. The network security with DMZ/intranet and internet will be studied.
4. Expand 3 to include a wireless network (WIFI).
5. Based on 1-4 provide best practices guidelines to work securely between different environments.
This study shares common topics with study P 14-0160. The platform provided by P14-0160 will be used in this study (P14-0162). The first month will involve travel by the PI to meet the NET-IA team. There is a possibility of combining the travel for both studies into one.
The above 5 topics will be studied over an 8 month period. The final 2 months will be devoted to documentation and handover. Quarterly reports will also be sent to the sponsor. The NPS team will consists of the computer science faculty/researcher, and a computer science MS student.
