Back Science of Distributed Artificial Cognition applied to Smallsat Clusters for Cooperative Multi-INT Collection

Summary We propose a 24-month research effort to analyze and evaluate the limits of performance and effectiveness of distributed cognitive architectures for constellations of smallsat vehicles with sensors to perform reconnaissance-like functions on dynamic targets. This effort specifically addresses Strategic Objective 3.1 Cooperative Collection and the technical domain Fundamental Limits, while contributing to the objectives of disruptive research and the exploitation of "new space". The research acknowledges the increasing desire to provide autonomy to constellations of small vehicles in order to execute complex sensing functions in near real time to improve sensing persistence and responsiveness, and constellation resilience.
