Summary The LRO Project requests the development of a rapid slew capability to improve science return. This capability will significantly enhance science return by opening regions of observation that were not previously feasible. The LRO spends much of its time pointed to nadir, with frequent slews off nadir to science targets of interest. Accessibility of science targets is limited by thermal and power constraints and slew rates. The effort leverages NPS analysis and methods previously demonstrated on Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE). LRO science will benefit from the faster slewing, and the effort will advance the technology for future use in the event of a wheel failure.
