Summary NASA NESC and the LRO project office requests the development and deployment of a new rapid slew capability to improve science return. NPS, NASA, and this capability will significantly enhance science return by opening regions of observation that previously were not feasible. The LRO spacecraft spends much of its time pointed to nadir, with frequent slews off nadir to science targets of interest. Accessibility of science targets is limited by thermal and power constraints and slew rates. The effort leverages the Navy's expertise, analysis, tools and methods previously demonstrated on Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE). LRO science will benefit from the faster slewing, and the effort will advance the technology for future use in the event of a wheel failure.
